Some interiors have a way of telling a story before you even start photographing them. This luxury B&B in Ghent was one of them, with each room bringing a different colour palette, mood and personality to the property.
I was brought in to create a new collection of hospitality photography that would capture this individuality. Polo, the owner, has a real love for colour, and it shows throughout the property. From the rich tones of Arabic Blue to the warmth of Nordic Orange, every room tells its own story. My goal was to capture these different atmospheres while creating a cohesive series of images that felt connected.

Finding the Right Atmosphere
One of the things I enjoy most about hospitality photography is finding the right visual approach for each property. Rather than applying the same style to every interior, I like to take the time to understand what makes a place special and let that guide my decisions.
For this B&B, the challenge was to balance the strong colours and individual character of each room without losing the overall consistency of the photographs. I wanted the colours to stand out, while keeping the images warm, inviting and natural.

Embracing the Available Light
The location of the B&B brought another challenge. Situated in the heart of Ghent, surrounded by neighbouring buildings, most of the rooms receive very little natural daylight. The breakfast room was the exception, offering a brighter space with more daylight coming in.
Instead of trying to make every room look brighter than it really was, I decided to embrace the available light and work with the atmosphere that was already there. The cosy bedside lamps became an important part of the visual approach, adding warmth and intimacy to the bedrooms. This warmer look also complemented the colourful interiors, helping each room feel inviting without losing its own character.

Where Colour Meets Character
As a hospitality photographer, I wanted the images to reflect the same feeling I experienced while walking through the property. Not every room needed to look the same; in fact, the contrast between them was exactly what made this place so distinctive. The challenge was to preserve those differences while creating a collection that felt balanced as a whole.
The result is a series that celebrates Polo’s playful approach to interior design, showing how colour, carefully chosen details and thoughtful lighting can shape the experience of a space. For me, that is what makes photographing boutique hotels and unique B&Bs so rewarding: every project comes with its own character, and no two visual stories need to be alike.

My approach is simple: I take the time to experience a place before I photograph it, looking beyond what is immediately visible to capture its mood and personality.
